Chiricahua & Southeast AZ Drive
November 2 - November 3
Mark your calendars now for two days of exploration in SE Arizona. Here is what we have planned:
Leave Tucson the morning of November 2 (either pack a picnic lunch or buy a sandwich at Subway in Willcox)
From Willcox we will drive to the Chiricahua National Monument, travel to the top to view the beautiful rock formations, have a picnic lunch at the park and either spend an hour on a short 1-1.5 mile hiking trail or (for those who find this too difficult) visit historic Faraway Ranch (fairly level ground).
We will end day one in Willcox with a meal at the famous Big Tex Bar-B-Que (in an old railroad car) and stay overnight at the Holiday Inn Express where we are holding 10 rooms at a group rate of $100.61 (including tax). We have a Party Room there, so bring your libations and a simple snack to share for a fun social evening. To make your early reservations, call Holiday Inn Express at 520-384-3333 and ask for the special rate for Tucson Miata Club.
On Saturday morning we will drive a short distance to Cochise and tour the historic Cochise Hotel and grounds. It has an old-fashioned casino (not operating) where the owner promises to provide a tour of the grounds and teach us the old gambling game of Pharo ($5 per person). He will even show you the apartment where he claims Big Nose Kate (of Tombstone fame) stayed.
From there we will proceed to Tombstone where you will be on your own to find lunch, drive about to see the town and regather to drive a good Miata road to Sierra Vista, stop for a treat and head northwest back to our homes.
More details will follow as we get closer to the event.
